The Trip There

Valencia 16/7/2017

It,s hard to believe that only a year has passed since we were in Central America.  Much has passed since then.  Lauren is in her 3rd year at Michaelis Art School in Cape Town and Guy has started his BSc Elec Eng degree at Manchester University.

2017 is half way through and its been a blur.  We've sold the flat in St Leonards-on-sea and have bought a plot with a ruin on it in Portugal where we hope to settle.

That the very short version.  Hopefully I will have time to blog about it at a later stage.

For now, its the big trip of the year to Canada.  After two great weeks in Spain, we closed up the house in Orba and Clive gave us a lift to the bust station in Denia.  Bus to Valencia and metro to the Travelodge nearby the airport as our plane leaves tomorrow at 6 am - a 20 minute walk to the airport at 4.15am.

So we didn't get to see much of Valencia.  The area that we are in is apparently the Ceramic centre of town and in our little walk to find food and beer, they were having a small exposition of their wares.  There was also a huge paella being made, but we decided the queue was too long to check out how it tasted.   The area was mainly set up for children who were being led through the various processes and there was a jazz band playing which (for us was a highlight).

The reason that we had spent the evening in Valencia was that we were travelling the next day to Paris to meet up with Guy and Lauren.  Guy was to arrive from Manchester and Lauren from Cape Town.

We woke at around 4 and took the rather hairy walk to the airport. Hairy because a part of the walk was on one of the big highways and even at that time of the morning there was a fair amount of traffic.

The flight on EuropeAir (partner of Air France) was fine and we were joined by Guy and subsequently Lauren in Charles De Gaulle for the flight to Toronto.
