Niagra Falls

In the Mall From our Hotel Room John lent me his Jetta to visit Niagra falls so while he and his family returned to Keswick, we headed for the falls.  We found a reasonably priced hotel there called The Oakes Hotel Overlooking the Falls (which seemed to offer the the same as much more expensive options). The name made a brave statement and one that I was not totally convinced about.  Sometimes one is pleasantly surprised.  We had a stunning room on one of the upper floors with a huge picture window overlooking the falls. Time was short and we were keen to see as much as possible.  Unfortunately Lauren was feeling really sick so Fiona, Guy and I went down for the first visit to the falls.  The clouds had been building and within a few minutes of beginning the 1km or so walk down it started to rain hard.  We took refuge in a nearby mall - also interesting and spent the next 45 minutes or so looking a the shops and also testing some seriously strong chili sauce. When  we arrived in Toronto on 17 July, Anita and John were waiting for us at the airport and we all clambered in to their large vehicle for the hour or so trip back to their house in Keswick.  It always amazes me that you can be away from old friends for years and when you see them again its just like old times. Their house while small is sufficient for the 4 (or sometimes 5 ) people, 6 cats and a dog. We stayed in their camper trailer which was actually to become our home for for the next couple of weeks. The following evening Anita and John arranged a big dinner for us and a few of their friends - and t

Valencia 16/7/2017 It,s hard to believe that only a year has passed since we were in Central America.  Much has passed since then.  Lauren is in her 3rd year at Michaelis Art School in Cape Town and Guy has started his BSc Elec Eng degree at Manchester University. 2017 is half way through and its been a blur.  We've sold the flat in St Leonards-on-sea and have bought a plot with a ruin on it in Portugal where we hope to settle. That the very short version.  Hopefully I will have time to blog about it at a later stage. For now, its the big trip of the year to Canada.  After two great weeks in Spain, we closed up the house in Orba and Clive gave us a lift to the bust station in Denia.  Bus to Valencia and metro to the Travelodge nearby the airport as our plane leaves tomorrow at 6 am - a 20 minute walk to the airport at 4.15am. So we didn't get to see much of Valencia.  The area that we are in is apparently the Ceramic centre of town and in our little w
